Your recycling can help our Community
Our existing recycling fundraiser through Containers for Change (see other blog on this page) is great but have you ever thought what else you can recycle that would help our Community? Well, SAND has partnered with Terracycle to open up a whole raft of product packaging that you can recycle and, in the process, help fund the activities of our Community Association. What’s more - it’s free to participate and requires very little effort!
See below the products/brands that are included in our current schemes and how you can help fund future events, facilities and services for the Shoreline Community.
Gillette and Gillette Venus: Refillable blades and razors, rigid plastic packaging, flexible plastic packaging and disposable blades and razors. They don’t have to be Gillette - any brand will do. Just wash and dry and pop into a bag or box for collection.
Glad: Your cling wrap, snack, sandwich or freezer bags, GLAD to be Green sandwich and snack bags, and cling wrap.
Nescafe Dolce Gusto: Coffee pods. Plastic NESCAFE Dolce Gusto capsules, and Plastic Starbucks by NESCAFE Dolce Gusto capsules.
Schwarzkopf Cares Hair: Hair spray aerosols, mousse aerosols, dry shampoo aerosols, hair care and styling aerosols. Doesn’t have to be Schwarzkopf branded.
Fairy and Ambi pur: Dishwashing liquid caps, dishwashing tablets flexible packaging (the bag they come in), plastic spray bottles, air freshener aerosol cans, air fresheners and refills and plastic outer packaging, clip-on car fresheners and refills and plastic outer packaging, dishwashing liquid bottles.
Finish: Finish dish care soft plastics (the bag that tablets/capsules come in).
How to donate and recycle
As with all community recycling, it’s important that anything donated is clean, dry and safe. Make sure that any liquid containers have been washed and dried and that any sharp items are guarded (razors/blades usually come with a guard).
All items can be placed in the same container. Ideally a box that you also want to recycle, perhaps a packing box from Amazon or one from the supermarket. Alternatively, a recycled plastic bag will do. Pop a label on the container with your name and address so that we can thank you for your contribution to SAND and let you know how your donation will be used.
Once you have collected a couple of bags/boxes, drop a line to secretary@sand.org.au containing your contact details, and, provided you reside on Shoreline (or nearby), one of our team will arrange a collection date/time with you. Our friendly team will collect and sort all contributions and ensure that they are sent to the correct recycling service. In return, SAND receives a donation from the recyclers which help to support our neighbourhood development.
If you have friends, family, colleagues nearby, why not have them join you in the collection too? Its great for our Community and a huge benefit to the planet.
