Why a Membership Fee?

Running a community organisation like SAND isn’t free—and without your support, we risk losing the very things that bring us together.

Becoming an Incorporated Association comes with unavoidable costs—costs that, if not covered, could prevent us from continuing to operate. These include:

  • Government fees at both state and federal levels

  • Annual independent audits to ensure transparency and accountability

  • Software and financial tools to manage operations

  • Insurance to protect our members and volunteers at events

These aren’t optional. And while private contributions have helped so far, they’re not sustainable. Grants are limited, competitive, and often inaccessible unless we’re Incorporated. Without this structure, we could miss out on vital funding opportunities—and the ability to deliver the events and services our community values.

If we can’t cover these basic costs, we can’t continue.

That’s why Membership matters. Fees are set at the minimum needed to get SAND up and running in its first year. Any surplus goes straight back into future community initiatives. As a non-profit, we’re committed to keeping costs low—but without enough members, even that becomes difficult.

And here’s what you could miss out on if you don’t join:

  • Free or discounted access to most events

  • Exclusive Member Benefits from local businesses

  • A chance to win a $150 Coffee Commune hamper—just by joining before 31 August 2025

  • Introductory Membership for just over $1 a week per household—only available until 30 June 2026

Miss the deadline, and you miss the savings. Miss the Membership, and you miss the benefits. And if too many people wait, we all risk losing the momentum we’ve built together.

Don’t let that happen. Join today and help secure SAND’s future—for all of us.
